Brisbane GP & Travel Doctor is a mixed billing practice. Consultation fees are payable in full at the time of consultation. Pensioners, Commonwealth Senior Card holders, and children under 16 are bulk billed. We also bulk bill members of the Centenary Pool; membership cards must be presented to our reception staff.
The cost of a standard consultation at Brisbane GP & Travel Doctor is $76.00 and is exclusive of any materials fee charged for dressings, materials used in procedures, contraceptives, and certain vaccines. However, the Doctor will charge according to the consult provided. A list of consultation fees, including for pensioners, healthcare card holders, veterans, and children under 16 is displayed in the reception area.
A standard consultation time is 15 minutes.
A longer consultation time is 30 minutes. If you have numerous or complex medical issues or require a procedure, a longer consultation may be required.
A travel consultation is 30 minutes. Travel consultations should be booked 4-6 weeks prior to your departure to allow time for a detailed evaluation of all your travel health needs. If you are closer to departure, it is still a good idea to book an appointment.
Please arrive at the clinic 10 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time to complete a required pre-travel questionnaire.
Part of the cost of travel vaccinations may be reclaimed through your private health fund. Please contact your health fund for more information.
Brisbane GP & Travel Doctor does not facilitate walk-in appointments unless a Doctor deems that an urgent consultation is required. This is because most of our Doctors are booked up in advance. It depends on your level of cover and which health fund provides your insurance. Brisbane GP & Travel Doctor has agreements with BUPA, NIB, AHM, IMAN, and Medibank. We can send these funds a bill directly, so you pay no out of pocket expenses for your consultation. Our reception staff can check your level of cover when you arrive for your consultation.*
*We cannot contact BUPA over the weekends. Therefore, if you have an appointment on Saturday, you will be required to pay an out of pocket cost amd claim independently.
At Brisbane GP & Travel Doctor, we use a secure automated SMS system to communicate with patients about results. Depending on the test that has been undertaken, a consultation may be required to receive results. It is the patient’s responsibility to follow up on their test results, and we actively encourage our patients to be proactive in their healthcare and book an appointment for results before leaving the clinic.
Unless encryption is used, email is not a secure platform for communicating sensitive information such as test results. Also, to protect your privacy, you should never email personal information such as your birth date, address, Medicare card number, etc. to our clinic.
Yes, in most circumstances you will need to see a Doctor to have a script written. Doctors have a duty of care and need to determine if you should be prescribed a medication based on various factors, or if you should continue or cease taking a medication they may have prescribed for you previously.
Regardless of the nature of your visit, you need to book an appointment with a doctor to ensure that you receive the correct level of care. Depending on your individual circumstance, you may also need to see a nurse either before or after your appointment with a doctor. Our reception staff can answer any particular questions you may have about your appointment.
If your usual doctor is fully booked and you need to see a doctor today, please call us on 3236 9599, and we will, depending on the circumstances, try to book you in with your usual doctor, or if this is not possible, another doctor who has an appointment available.
Brisbane GP & Travel Doctor is open between 8:00am and 6:00pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and 8:00am to 8:00pm on Tuesday. The earliest appointment time is 8:00am, and the last appointment for the day is 15 minutes prior to closing.
Yes, we have a large waiting room area where you can likely sit away from other people. Alternatively, please speak with our reception staff when you arrive, and they will arrange an area for you.

Yes, Cathy Purcell is our Allied Health Dietician. Cathy is an Accredited Practising Dietitian with over 20 years of experience working in the public and private sector. She completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Queensland, a Graduate Diploma of Nutrition & Dietetics at QUT, a Masters in Public Health (UQ), and Sports Nutrition studies in Melbourne. Cathy assisted those who are acutely ill in hospital across a range of medical and surgical specialities.
